Recyclability is one factor
Steel can be recovered and recycled, which is valuable at end of life. A responsible claim should distinguish recyclability from the actual recycled content, embodied impact and recovery route of the specific product.
Precision can reduce waste
Factory-formed members and project-specific panel schedules can reduce offcuts and rework compared with uncontrolled site fabrication. Accurate design information and ordering are necessary to realise that benefit.
Operational performance matters
A low-energy room depends on insulation continuity, thermal-bridge control, airtightness, glazing, ventilation and services. The structural frame alone cannot support a whole-building energy claim.
Design for long use
A room that remains useful, dry, repairable and adaptable avoids premature replacement. Choose dimensions, openings and finishes around real long-term use rather than the smallest initial specification.
